NTT Electronics to Exhibit New Products and Technologies at "IBC 2008" Introducing AVC/H.264 Codec Solutions Supporting 4:2:2 Chroma

NTT Electronics Corporation (President: Hiroshi Yoshimura, HQ: Tokyo) will jointly exhibit with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) (President: Satoshi Miura, HQ: Tokyo) at IBC 2008 (booth No. 1.B18). This is the largest show for the broadcasting market in Europe and is held from September 12th till the 16th in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The exhibit will use the large-screen displays to demonstrate AVC/H.264 codecs supporting 4:2:2 Chroma for content transmission, devices for broadcast equipment and AVC/H.264 codec solutions for content creation.

And also, it will show the next generation codec technology that reflects the rapid future changes of AVC/H.264.

The following products will be on display.

1. Real-time codec solutions

  • AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV encoder/decoder "HV9100 Series"

    • With an AVC/H.264 CODEC LSI chipset built-in that supports 4:2:2 Chroma, the HV9100 Series provides high-quality and low latency in a wide range of bit rate. It supports MPEG-2 format for smooth transition from existing MPEG-2 equipment to the up-and-coming AVC/H.264 format. At our booth, multiple 50-inch full-HD large-screen displays will be lined up to provide easy comparisons of video quality at varying bit rates for different applications.
  • Lightweight and compact high-performance MPEG-2 HDTV encoder/decoder "H5000 Series"

    • The H5000 Series is a high-quality encoder and decoder for content transmission in a lightweight and compact half-rack size. It can be mounted in to OB Vans, helicopters, and motorcycles and is perfect for transmission and relay from the field and events over ENG/SNG and dedicated lines.
  • Real-time MPEG-2 to AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV transcoder "HVT9100"

    • Excellent for high-quality HDTV distribution over IPTV, CATV or satellite with its real-time transcoding of MPEG-2 HDTV to highly compressed AVC/H.264.

2. Devices for transfer equipment

3. Codec solutions for content creation

  • Software encoder (jointly exhibited with NTT-AT)

    • AVC/H.264 HDTV software encoder "HDE-100" is the optimum solution for creation of contents for services that require high visual quality and high compression rate, such as IPTV VOD.

In addition to this software encoder package, we also offer AVC/H.264 software encoder SDK "HDVE-100 Encoder SDK" for developing applications such as file transcoders.
  • HD Video Delivery System
MallVision~HD Video(AVC/H.264 HDTV) Delivery System (jointly exhibited with NTT-AT)

    • According to specified schedule, MallVision can automatically deliver FullHD 1080i video content to display terminals and automatically play the delivered content.

MallVision is perfect for advertising merchandise by using video and promoting movies, TV programs, etc.

MallVision is a new video delivery solution that enables you to experience HD videos with a high sense of reality.

4. Latest Technology for the Next Generation

  • 4k x 2k high resolution software encoding technology (technology exhibited by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories)

    • This encoding technology enables efficient H.264 encoding of 4k x 2k by utilizing encoding information of shrunk image. Also, highly efficient compression is achieved by determining optimum encoding parameters through offline processing with N path encoding. Support for parallel processing allows for the use of multiple PCs running encoding software for increased speed.
  • Interactive Panorama Video Technologies (technology exhibited by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories)

    • Using this high efficiency compression and encoding method that brings together videos of a subject taken from multiple cameras, this technology lets the user switch to video from any viewpoint and creates a new viewing style. Multi-view video coding is an expanded form of AVC/H.264 and is expected to be standardized in 2008.
  • SVC Real-time Software Codec (technology exhibited by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories)

    • Scalable video coding provides various types of SNR, spatial and temporal resolution images from a single coded stream. In order to adapt various network/display conditions in recent years, ISO and ITU-T standardized SVC, which is the scalable extension of AVC/H.264. We have developed a software-based real-time SVC codec using our techniques to enhance image quality and reduce complexity.
