NTT Electronics to Exhibit New Products and Technologies at "NAB 2008"
March 25, 2008

Introducing AVC/H.264 Codec Solutions Supporting 4:2:2 Chroma

NTT Electronics Corporation (President: Tomoyuki Toshima, HQ: Tokyo) will jointly exhibit with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) (President: Satoshi Miura, HQ: Tokyo) at NAB 2008 (booth No. SU10220). This is the world's largest electronic media show and is held from April 14th till the 17th in Las Vegas, USA. The exhibit will use the large-screen displays to demonstrate AVC/H.264 codecs supporting 4:2:2 Chroma for content transmission, real-time codec solutions that reflect the rapid future changes to HD and AVC/H.264, codec solutions for content creation, and devices for broadcast equipment.

The following products will be on display.

Real-time codec solutions

AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV encoder/decoder "HV9100 Series"

With an AVC/H.264 CODEC LSI chipset built-in that supports 4:2:2 Chroma, the HV9100 Series provides high-quality and low latency in a wide range of bit rate. It supports MPEG-2 format for smooth transition from existing MPEG-2 equipment to the up-and-coming AVC/H.264 format. At our booth, multiple 50-inch full-HD large-screen displays will be lined up to provide easy comparisons of image quality at varying bit rates for different applications.

Real-time MPEG-2 to AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV transcoder "HVT9100"

Excellent for high-quality HDTV distribution over IPTV, CATV or satellite with its real-time transcoding of MPEG-2 HDTV to highly compressed AVC/H.264. The HVT9100 minimizes image deterioration that occurs during transcoding of MPEG-2 to AVC/H.264 to achieve the conversion of high definition images with the built-in coding LSI "SARA". This LSI supports the "inheritance encoding method" developed by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories for inheriting encoding information during re-encoding.

Lightweight and compact high-performance MPEG-2 HDTV encoder/decoder "H5000 Series

The H5000 Series is a high-quality encoder and decoder for content transmission in a lightweight and compact half-rack size. It can be mounted in to OB Vans, helicopters, and motorcycles and is perfect for transmission and relay from the field and events over ENG/SNG and dedicated lines.

Codec solutions for content creation

Software encoder (jointly exhibited with NTT-AT)

Using an encoding system with a software base that makes flexible encoded tuning possible, this encoder is perfect for content creation like VoD which demands high compression.

4k + 2k high resolution offline encoding technology (technology exhibited by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories)

In addition to 4k x 2k high resolution encoding offline, this encoding technology makes it possible to simultaneously encode HDTV video. Efficient H.264 multi-encoding of 4k x 2k and HDTV video is achieved by utilizing encoding information of HDTV video. Also, highly efficient compression is achieved by determining optimum encoding parameters through offline processing with N path encoding. Support for parallel processing allows for the use of multiple PCs running encoding software for increased speed.

Multi-view video coding (multi-viewpoint video encoding) technology (technology exhibited by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories)

Using this high efficiency compression and encoding method that brings together videos of a subject taken from multiple cameras, this technology lets the user switch to video from any viewpoint and creates a new viewing style. Multi-view video coding is an expanded form of AVC/H.264 and is expected to be standardized in 2008.

Devices for transfer equipment

AVC/H.264 codec LSI and modules "SARAENC/DEC LSI", and "SARAENC/DEC Module"

On display for the first time ever will be the newly developed "SARAENC/DEC LSI", which inherits the high quality VASA LSI highly praised by broadcasters worldwide, and the "SARAENC/DEC Module", which supports HDTV H.264 and MPEG-2 with built-in SARA ENC/DEC and high-speed memory. It is ideal for broadcast equipment such as SNG and FPU systems with a simple device construction and professional quality video.

Single-chip LSI for real-time transcoding from MPEG-2 to AVC/H.264 "Matiz"

MPEG-2 codec LSIs for HDV cameras and wireless digital video devices "Super ENC V, LibraENC"

MPEG-2 HDTV Single Chip Codec LSI "VASA" used by broadcasters worldwide because of its superior video quality and stability.
