BIRTV 2009 Exhibition Report
September 25, 2009

NTT Electronics Corporation exhibited its products at “BIRTV 2009”. This is the largest exhibition of broadcasting equipment in China and it is held in Beijing from August 26 to 29, 2009.

We were able to set up our booth near the entrance to the hall, where there was a constant stream of visitors. Benefiting from a growing interest in HDTV broadcasting in the Chinese broadcasting market, we had a large number of visitors to our booth during the exhibition and the event ended as a great success for us. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all for your support.

The following is a brief report on our exhibition.

We set up our booth immediately along the passage into the exhibition hall to enable visitors to see first some examples of how our products are used and then displays about our company and products.

Real-time Codec Solutions

We combined the HVE9100 AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV encoder with the HVD6100 Professional 4:2:2 IRD (marking the first time the HVD6100 had been displayed at an exhibition in China) in order to display the transmission of HDTV images.

The main purpose of the display was to demonstrate that high-quality, low-delay image transmission is available at a low data rate (6 Mbps), which meets the needs of the Chinese market. Our products were well received by visitors to our booth, especially for the image quality they offer.

We combined the HVE9100 AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV encoder and the HVD9100 decoder in order to display the transmission of SD images.

We also tried to draw visitors' attention to the high quality and stability that our products can deliver for images transmitted at a low data rate (1.5 Mbps), emphasizing that the HV9100 Series models (HVE9100 and HVD9100) can be used for a wide variety of purposes in China.

Video Device Products

BIRTV 2009 Displays | Video Device Products

Using PINEA, a PCI-Express-compatible AVC/H.264 video codec LSI for PCs, we mounted a display designed to encode images acquired by a USB camera in real time (see the monitor on the left).

We also displayed images transcoded using Matiz, an MPEG-2-to-AVC/H.264 single-chip transcoder LSI (see the monitor on the right).

To the right of the monitors are wireless devices made in China that are equipped with LibraENC modules and SD modules. These devices proved very useful in presenting our video device products and demonstrating how our products can be used.

We were able to see how demand is shifting from SDTV to HDTV and from MPEG-2 to H.264 in the Chinese market also for video device products.

Optical Fiber Products

We displayed optical fiber codes that can be used by someone without any expert knowledge or skills, just like copper wires. Many visitors showed a strong interest in the panels and fliers advertising our products.

Last year’s “BIRTV 2008” gave us a glimpse of how the memorable summer 2008 Beijing Olympics Games stimulated interest in HDTV technology in the Chinese broadcasting market. Due partly to the HDTV broadcasting that is scheduled to start in China on September 28, 2009 (simultaneously with SDTV broadcasting), “BIRTV 2009” provided ample opportunity for us to get a sense of the growing interest that there is in new technologies such as solutions for frequency ranges affected by simultaneous broadcasting.

NTT Electronics Corporation will continue to develop and advance products designed to support initiatives aimed at introducing HDTV into the Chinese broadcasting market.
