NTT Electronics Releases Encoder Capable of Simultaneously Transmitting Two Full HD 3D Video Channels

NTT Electronics Corporation's MPC1010 MPEG-2 HDTV/SDTV Multi-Channel Encoder, which can simultaneously transmit up to two channels of full HD 3D video content, has gone on sale in North America, starting the end of September 2010. The MPC1010 encoder, which can output completely synchronized STC and GOP signals, is suited to the broadcast transmission of high quality live event 3D video as well as the distribution of high quality 3D video content to theaters.

"The MPC1010, which fits in a single rack (2U), is capable of simultaneously transmitting up to two channels of HD 3D video content without requiring an external frame synchronizer, providing significant cost savings." Shoichi Nakano, the General Manager of the Overseas System Business Division at NTT Electronics explained the advantages of the MPC1010 with regard to 3D video transmission. "NTT Electronics' own cutting edge LSI is built in, which is particularly to provide superior performance for the transmission sports content and has been employed in many encoders used in the broadcasting industry. The MPC1010 can transmit fast moving video content such as sporting events, which are very popular content for live 3D video broadcasting, while maintaining high image quality."

The MPC1010 has a modular design. Each module has a HDTV/SDTV video encoder. Customers allow to purchase only a number of modules corresponding to the number of channels needed by the broadcaster, thereby achieving cost savings. It provides the simultaneous encoding of up to four different video channels in any combination (ex. 1-channel HDTV and 3-channel SDTV), and also supports the transmission of 4K2K video. The MPC1010 is also suitable for FPTV and LPTV switching Analog to digital broadcasting. It complies with ATSC standard, and includes TS MUX, DVB-ASI, up to 4 stereo pair audio input per module (Option) and IP output interface.
